At the beginning, I’ll be combining Product Management and Engineering (remember what I mentioned in my farewell post about “[wearing multiple hats](https://jorgeferreiro.com/blog/jorge-ferreiro-leaves-eventbrite \"Jorge Ferreiro is a Growth Product Manager and entrepreneur\")”? 😂). However, once I become more familiarized with the role and we grow the engineering organization, **I want to entirely focus on Product Management**.\n\nI know some of you may be already familiar with the Growth Product Manager role, but I wanted to take this opportunity to **explain what I’m going to be working on and the exciting challenges ahead**. Hope this post will inspire more folks to follow my career switch from engineering into product.\n\n## Why am I interested in PRODUCT GROWTH?\n\nI come from big tech companies such as **Amazon** or **Eventbrite** where their growth and marketing strategies are polished and structured. However, **a startup in growth like StreamYard offers challenges** that you rarely find in established bigger corporations.\n\nStreamYard has found a good Product Market Fit with an amazing user base. However, there is much more to do to make sure **we continue to be number one in the space, and we continue to capture market share**. That’s what I will focus on!\n\nI love [StreamYard](https://streamyard.com/?utm-source=ferreiro-website) because it democratizes the creation of live streams for everybody. Prepare, StreamYard, is coming to you! 😛 Fascinating challenges ahead.\n\n## What is a Growth Product Manager?\n\nLet’s start with the basics. My **definition of a Product Manager** is someone who takes ownership over a product end-to-end: understanding user pain points, prioritizing which problems to solve first, coordinating work among stakeholders, launching the product, and learning from user's feedback.\n\nI see a product Manager as “the glue” of product companies, since they interact and partner up with so many different stakeholders such as: engineering managers, designers, legal, marketing, other product managers, etc.\n\nSo… What is the difference between a product manager and a Growth Product Manager? Both share much of the knowledge, but a **Growth Product Manager focuses on: acquisition, activation and retention metrics.**\n\nEssentially, bringing new users to the product, helping them to experience the “Aha moment,” and making them so happy that they come back frequently.\n\n> A Growth Product Manager focuses on: acquisition, activation and retention metrics. \\[...\\] bringing new users to the product, helping them to experience the “Aha moment,” and making them so happy that they come back frequently.\n\nWhile in both roles you need to experiment and try out multiple ideas, it is key to have an experimentation mindset while working on growth.
